Years in recovery: 10       Age: 48       Gender: Female

I am a 48 year old African-American woman who has been in recovery for the past 10 years. I used for over 18 years and did not even have a high school diploma when I entered treatment. I just completed my Masters Degree in Social Work and I currently work with adolescents who are addicted to alcohol and other drugs. I also work with people who are living with HIV/AIDS.

The turning point in my life was after years of using alcohol and other drugs and belieiving that I did not have a problem,I was arrested for a drug possession. I would like to share that if you want change... it can happen if thats what you really desire. Its a lot of hard work but if you put your mind to it, it can happen. What I would like to accomplish in this plight of recovery is to reach out to as many sick and active addicts as I possibly can and plant a seed of recovery that will encourage people who to give recovery a chance, but most of all give themselves a chance.
