OASAS Stories of Recovery

Years in recovery: 6       Age: 57       Gender: Female

Hello,

I'm a blessed and recovering addict. Thank God for Recovery. My story is growing up in an environment whereas it was okay to use. It was the norm. But even as a child, I knew there was much more to life than what I was being exposed to, however, without the tools to deal with my feelings and wanting to be a part of the crowe, I used too.

From the age of 14 to the age of 51, I was lost and found myself using against my will. I so desparately wanted to stop, but the pain of what I had done to my life seemed unrepairable.

That was then, today I am 6 years, 4 months and 25 days clean and I have lived the best life ever. Since I've been clean and in recovery I have been back to school and received my High School Equivalency Diploma at the age of 55, became a Certified Medical Biller and Coder and I am presently in school with a completion date for May 2009 for my CASAC-T. It doesn't stop there for me!

I am so grateful and amazed at the people before me who set examples of recovery, which gives me the strength and hope that I too can have my lost dreams become a reality.
