Scott Wilkinson
I grew up in a middle income home. I played little league and Pop Warner football. I had plans for after high school to join the Navy and pursue a law enforcement degree, but my life changed suddenly. I was just 18 when my dad was killed in a car accident. The night he died I was introduced to crack cocaine. I thought it would help with the stress from my father's death . . . but I was wrong. At first, I liked using crack, but soon it took me down so hard. I did things and went places I never thought I would just to get high. Eventually, I felt like I couldn't live this way any longer, so I entered six-month treatment program where I was introduced to a counselor who showed me that a life in recovery was possible. That was nearly 12 years ago and since then, I have never returned to using drugs. I spent those 12 years rebuilding my life and today I can honestly say that I have found peace and happiness with myself and my life. I look forward to pursuing new dreams. I have new friends and I have been reunited with some of my old high school friends. I work full-time as a truck driver and own a small successful business. I am so happy to be free from the grips of drugs. I know I cannot change what happened to me when I was 18. Sometimes, I wish I could change some of the things I did in my past, but that was a long time ago and my recovery has given me a true "second chance." I am living a happy, sober lifestyle and plan on staying that way. I am Recovery, one day at a time. My name is Scott. This is my story. What's Your Story? |
