2009-2010 Spotlight Stories

Each year, 12 individuals are chosen to be spokespeople for recovery and for the Your Story Matters campaign. The 12 campaign "spotlights" as they are called, are an integral piece of the Your Story Matters campaign, offering a face and a voice to a unified, consumer-driven Recovery Movement in New York. Addiction doesn't discriminate, but neither does recovery. And the faces of the 2009-10 Your Story Matters campaign spotlights are proof that recovery is real. Select an image below to read the spotlight story and view the spotlight video.

Joan Hajjar "My Story is about Gratitude."
Randy Hill "My Story is about Freedom"
Amber Saccoccio "My Story is about Strength."
Monroe Wesley Parrott "My Story is about Healing."
Joyce Barrett "My Story is about Caring."
Assemblyman Sam Hoyt "My Story is about Survival."
Jane Velez-Mitchell "My Story is about Honesty."
Pastor Angel Zapata "My Story is about Love."
LaQuanda Edgefield "My Story is about Second Chances."
Juan Martinez "My Story is about Potential."
Linda Mallory-Mitchell "My Story is about Family."
Angel Lopez "My Story is about Change."

We are currently reaching out to New York providers and the community-at-large for suggestions as we choose the next 12 campaign spotlights to be unveiled during Recovery Month, September 2010. If you are interested in becoming a campaign spotlight or would like to suggest an individual who has a story that New Yorkers need to hear, please contact the OASAS Communications Bureau at 518-457-8299 or
